What Does Today's Modern Bride Want?
After many bridal consultations I have discovered, not surprisingly, that today's modern bride is very different from the bride of yesteryear. A modern bride isn't necessarily wanting the same photography style as her mother or her grandmother did. Times have changed over the last 40 years and in comparison, today's modern bride has a fast, free, fun life style which she wants reflected in her wedding photography. 15 years ago digital photography was just becoming mainstream and the concept that a bride would have far more than two or three 36 exposure films to chose from was a new one. Other ideas such as trash the dress photography didn't exist then either, times have changed for the modern bride, essentially they have more choice.
Modern families today are not able to follow the tradition of the father of the bride paying for the wedding, brides are having to budget and pay for it themselves, which means weddings are becoming more intimate, as brides don't always want to invite aunt Sally and uncle Ted whom they haven't seen since they were in nappies. Being surrounded by close family and friends makes the wedding more informal, the wedding photography should reflect that, and that's why I believe that this is what the majority of modern brides are looking for.
